In the naturalraw form
In the natural, raw form, deoxycholic acid is an integral component of our dietary fat digestion system. Kybella is the purified version of this bile salt, and is FDA approved for the treatment of moderate to severe unwanted fat directly under the chin. The ideal candidate for this non-surgical procedure has unwanted fullness of the neck and jowl area.
This fullness may be hereditary or weight related, and can be refractory to regular diet and exercise. Commonly, it is the source of many ruined selfies and group photos. The profile demonstrates fullness in the central neck area making it obtuse or even convex. While looking straight ahead, a double chin can be seen and the jowls take the attention away from a smooth jawline. With Kybella Plano patients can achieve a lasting and remarkable improvement when it's the right choice for them.
Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable treatment designed to reduce stubborn fat beneath the chin, also known as submental fullness. It’s made from a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring molecule that helps break down fat in the body. When injected into targeted areas, Kybella destroys fat cells, allowing the body to gradually flush them away. Once those fat cells are gone, they won’t come back—meaning a more contoured, defined jawline without the need for surgery.
Benefits of Kybella
A well-defined jawline can enhance your overall appearance and boost confidence, but sometimes, no amount of diet and exercise can eliminate fullness under the chin. Kybella offers a non-surgical solution to permanently reduce this stubborn fat, helping you achieve a sleeker, more sculpted profile. Because it’s an injectable treatment, there’s little to no downtime, making it an easy option for those with busy schedules. Benefits of Kybella include:
What aesthetic issues does Kybella address?
Kybella is specifically designed to target unwanted fat, particularly in the submental area. While genetics and aging can contribute to a fuller chin, Kybella helps refine and contour this area for a more youthful, balanced look. Kybella can help with:
Kybella Candidates
At our practice in Plano Kybella is considered ideal for individuals looking to reduce submental fullness without surgery. If you feel self-conscious about a double chin or have noticed unwanted fat in this area due to aging or genetics, Kybella may be a great option. However, it’s not suitable for everyone, and a consultation is essential to determine if it’s right for you. You may be a good candidate if you:
Kybella is performedwith or without topical anesthetic
At our practice in Plano Kybella is performed in the office setting, with or without topical anesthetic. This is determined by patient preference. Management of the neck and jowls are performed through select, premarked injection sites overlying the problem areas. This allows for a safe and even treatment of the excess neck and jowl fat. Mild burning is expected during the treatment site, but subsides quickly with a cool compress alone. At the completion of the procedure, you will be able to return to work or go home at your discretion.
Kybella Results
When undergoing Kybella Plano patients should understand that results develop gradually and won’t appear overnight. Most patients start noticing a slimmer, more contoured chin within four to six weeks of their first treatment. However, multiple sessions (typically two to four) may be needed to achieve optimal results. Once the fat cells are eliminated, they don’t regenerate, so the effects are long-lasting—provided you maintain a stable weight. Final results typically settle within three to six months after your last session. Since Kybella permanently destroys fat cells, you won’t need maintenance treatments unless new fat develops due to weight gain.
Following the procedure, inflammation, firmness, and/or swelling will occur to some extent while the fat is dissolved. Cool compresses and acetaminophen (eg. Tylenol) can be used, if needed, while the early tenderness resolves. Swelling is less predictable in duration and quantity. This is more apparent with an initial treatment and is related to the amount of excess fat dissolved/product used. It may last from 1-4 weeks. During this time, some degree of numbness is usually present over the treated area. As the swelling resolves, the new neck and jowl contours become visible and you can begin enjoying the results of Kybella. If further treatments are desired, these are performed at 6-week intervals. Recovery is usually minimal on secondary treatments.
