Balance and Correct

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal Fillers are injectable implants that we place into and under your skin to create the proper volume and smooth fine lines. Fillers are often used to augment skeletal elements that could be improved for better facial proportions and balance. This latter indication is transformative and may be utilized for some as early as our 20s.

As we age, repetitive movements and damaged collagen begin to manifest as wrinkles and fine lines. Moreover, age-related volume loss becomes apparent as hollowing of the cheeks, under the eyes, temples, and areas around the mouth. These processes are highly influenced by genetics, lifestyle, environment, and age.

With Dermal Fillers Plano patients can experience heightened confidence in their appearance by correction of both balance and early age-related findings. During a quick office visit, Dermal Fillers can help you look and feel your best.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

An ingredient in many popular Dermal Filler products, hyaluronic acid is a substance that occurs naturally in the body and helps to add volume and hydration to the skin. Our bodies have natural enzymes to break down our own hyaluronic acid, and similarly, they can break down the more crosslinked forms of hyaluronic acid that make up this filler. This is foundational and important to understand as these products will naturally dissolve over time and can be actively reversed with an enzyme solution if needed.

Types of Dermal Fillers

There are many different options available for facial fillers. These range from permanent to temporary, but we prefer the latter for their safety and reversibility. We provide filler treatments with Juvederm and Restylane, which are both hyaluronic acid Dermal Fillers. Juvederm and Restylane are known for their smooth consistency and natural-looking results.

Each line offers a range of products with characteristics that lend themselves to a specific area and goal, allowing for a customized approach to facial rejuvenation. This may be “on label” or “off label.” Although they are reversible, these fillers can provide long-lasting effects, thanks to their advanced formulations featuring crosslinked HA. Our specialists can help you select the best fillers and create a detailed treatment plan to meet your desired goals and preferences.

Juvederm

From Allergan’s original, versatile Juvederm filler to their newest filler iterations in the Juvederm line designed to target specific facial areas and concerns, each is used alone or in combination to achieve a customized result. Dermal fillers can improve your contour, skin quality, proportions, and structure to meet your overall aesthetic goal.

Juvederm Volux XC has a firm consistency, perfect for adding stable volume and definition to the jawline.

Juvederm Voluma XC is primarily used to rebuild volume in the cheeks —filling in deeper aging-related hollows—and to augment the chin for a more balanced profile.

Juvederm Vollure XC, Juvederm Ultra Plus XC, and Juvederm Ultra XC are perfect for filling in deeper facial wrinkles around the mouth, including nasolabial folds.

Juvederm Ultra XC is commonly used to add volume to the lips and smooth out fine perioral lines (sometimes called “smoker’s lines”) around the mouth.

Juvederm Volbella XC is on label for filling in under-eye hollows for a more youthful appearance, but we find it most useful for lip augmentation and treating perioral lines.

Individual treatment plans can incorporate more than one type of Dermal Filler to provide comprehensive revitalization and enhancement.

Restylane

The Galderma product line of trusted, high-quality HA fillers, are all under the Restylane name. Like the Juvederm line, it also began with a foundational, well-rounded product with many applications, Restylane, and grew to many targeted formulations for specific needs.

Restylane-L(with lidocaine) is still frequently used in many applications from under eye correction to enhancing the volume and contours of the lips. It is also useful for skin fold improvement in more superficial areas.

Restylane Lyft is an excellent formula for filling severe wrinkles and folds, augmenting the cheeks, and enhancing facial contours.

Restylane Silk and Restylane Kysse have the best consistencies for augmenting the lips and smoothing out fine lines around the lips and mouth.

Restylane Refyne is administered slightly deeper to smooth out lines and folds that are severe to moderate.

Restylane Defyne is a favorite filler for augmenting the chin to provide more projection and balance. It can also be used for moderate to severe wrinkles.

Restylane Contour has the perfect consistency to fill hollows in the midface and augment the cheeks.

Restylane Eyelight is another option for correcting undereye hollows for a rested, youthful appearance.

Differences between Juvederm and Restylane include the molecular structure and crosslinking, which affect how they feel, lift, fold, fill, consistently correct, and resist absorption. The wide range of products that have been formulated allows for regionally specialized treatments that take advantage of the characteristics that make each one unique. The one Dermal Filler for everything model of treatment is less frequently used. Instead, we work with you to find the treatment that best suits your needs.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR DERMAL FILLERS?

The hyaluronic acid in Dermal Fillers mimics the HA that occurs naturally in the body, making them a good choice as a minimally invasive treatment option for almost anyone who wishes to revitalize their appearance without surgery. The range of formulations ensures we have a diverse toolkit to craft results that reflect your aspirations and help you love the face you see in the mirror every day.

Certain individuals, such as those who are pregnant or breastfeeding, should not have Dermal Fillers. What to Expect

Dermal Filler Preparation and Procedure

Treatments begin with a review and rehash of the treatment plan. We obtain pre-treatment photos and answer questions, review the technique, discuss comfort measures, and cover consent. After allowing time for pre-treatment comfort measures, we clean and sterilize the skin. We then initiate Dermal Filler placement through direct and/or microcannula techniques while utilizing in-treatment comfort measures. Procedures are completed in 15 min to 1 hour, depending on the treatment plan details.

Post-treatment recovery is minimal and is largely dictated by treatment-related comfort measures. Associated anesthetic options can cause brief or prolonged numbness in a treatment area. Swelling, redness, soreness, or injection site bruising are also possible but are only common in certain treatment areas like the lips. Conservative measures of cold compresses and OTC acetaminophen are the most effective. Avoiding strenuous activity, limiting alcohol consumption, protecting the treatment area from manipulation/ trauma, and ceasing aspirin, fish oil, and NSAIDs can help as well.

Maintaining Your Remarkable Dermal Filler Results

Recovery after Dermal Filler treatment is pretty easy, but we are here to help you get the most from your treatment. Any concerns about your healing, results, or unusual symptoms should be brought to our attention immediately so we can guide you and ensure your positive outcome. Fillers have a general lifespan based on the type and location.

Some people may need to come in for touch-up treatments or retreatment sooner than this, depending on the specific product used and the individual's needs. In general, it is recommended to wait at least one week to recheck your face following filler injections to allow for any swelling to resolve. Dermal Filler treatments are typically designed to last for several months to years. However, the exact duration can vary depending on the specific filler used, the treated area, and the individual's skin and metabolism. Once we achieve the desired result, we will often check the area at three to approximately six months between treatments to confirm you are still happy with the improvement and looking your best.

Dermal Fillers Frequently Asked Questions

Dermal Fillers are generally safe but carry the risk of potential side effects, including bruising, swelling, redness, and occasional lumps or asymmetry at the injection site. In rare cases, more serious complications like infection or vascular issues can occur, making it vital that you have your treatment performed by a qualified and experienced professional.

Most people find the treatment very tolerable. Numbing cream is available to reduce any potential discomfort, and some dermal fillers are formulated with lidocaine to provide extra numbing at the injection site.

The results of a Dermal Filler treatment can last from approximately six to eighteen months, with the duration varying somewhat by individual, treatment area, and product.

Injections rarely leave any permanent marks or scars.

Several factors will determine the final cost, including the type of dermal filler used and the number of injections.
